16 August - A Doll A Day 2022:
16 August - New Book on an Old Topic
I was gonna type something about the book, but instead I'm gonna ask: WHERE IS EVERYBODY?
I've recently curtailed my activity on another forum, and other members have more than stepped up to fill the vacancy, including some old members who have returned during my absence. I can't help but think this is not a coincidence.
Perhaps the time has come for me to retreat back in to Occasional Lurker Mode here at TDHF.
No... wait! Here's a better idea: if y'all don't like my content, BURY IT! Do you remember the days when this and other forums were so busy and had so much activity that every time you popped in there was an entire page of new posts? Or two pages? Sometimes even three pages or more? (Well, maybe three pages was only at the Pinky-Street forum; in it's prime, the Pinky-Street forum was a hoppin' joint.) Remember when new topics would quickly get pushed off the bottom of the Recent Posts page because there were so many topics that things got steamrolled? If you're tired of seeing my tedious Doll a Day posts, shove 'em off the page with a ton of new posts. Ignore 'em and bury 'em six feet deep. Or six pages deep, as it were.

Yeeahhh.... I don't think you can take credit for people's inactivity....
Your pics are always entertaining... I could post the same comments here as I post at Dolly Market, I suppose, but that seems kinda weird.
It would be nice to see more people participating on BOTH forums.

So you mean I'm even less of an "Influencer" than I had thought?
Yeah, it seems kind of redundant to cross-post the same or similar comments. I feel that way, too, when I follow people... follow, not stalk... around from forum to forum and to Flickr and Insta.
That's why I wonder if MY presence on forums discourages others from participating. Sometimes it seems that way. I think, though, it's partly the influence of Facebook and Instagram. People will click a button, but they can't be bothered to leave a comment, other than an occasional string of emojis.
(Ya shoulda seen the original version of my caption yesterday! It was about three times as long and quite a rant!)

Re: davidd's A DOLL A DAY 2022:
One reason for my not commenting daily here is that I’m often taking a quick peek on my phone and when it takes 10 minutes to make quotes and fix the dictation errors and backspace to delete stuff all on a tiny screen… I will look and say “I’ll do it later on the laptop”.
Case in point, I tried to write a lot more here with some “opinions” about online discussions/lack of engagement/un-followers but it would take just too long to fix all the dictation errors so I deleted it.

Sometimes when I see people dictating messages to their phones I think I should learn how to do that. But then when I read about the editing necessary to fix all the errors, I figure I'll stick to cumbersome thumb-typing.
Actually, I never look at forums or social media on a phone. The screen is too small and typing and communicating is too cumbersome for me to bother with.

Re: davidd's A DOLL A DAY 2022:
Well, it's not like there's much to "learn" when dictating; I mean, you tap the little mic button... If nothing else it teaches you to enunciate. And think about what you're saying, with punctuation. Some of the things it thinks I said can be quite funny, but the worst near-miss was when I sent an annoying person a polite reply and then said something else after I finished, and dictation picked that up as well and I almost sent it
And yes, even with zoom capability the screen is ridiculously small and it bothers my eyes. However, for a quick look it's quicker than starting up the computer.
Are these guys new additions, or ones that have been, well, sitting in boxes for ever?

Welllll.... if you were to upgrade from that steam-powered Univac computer you seem so attached to.
Those are guys I purchased a couple of years ago via eBay and by the time they arrived I was already wondering why. They're probably headed for the donation pile.

Recently discovered photographic evidence in the form of a mid-19th century daguerreotype offers evidence supporting anecdotal claims attributing preternatural age to infamous Royal Kadath Society demon hunter Kroger Terreblanche.
Skeptics suggest that the possibility of digital fakery has, as of yet, not been entirely ruled out.

I recently attended a demonstration of daguerreotyping at the museum. The artist is quite obsessed with them. He did a group photo of the audience. We all look appropriately stodgy.
Hope you feel better soon.

Re: davidd's A DOLL A DAY 2022:
8 September - A Doll A Day 2022:
This nightclub diorama room box originated back in mid-2018 as a temporary setting consisting to two short walls coming together to make a corner:
It was originally intended to be a temporary backdrop to be discarded, but the parts were still hanging around -- hard to imagine, I know -- in December 2020, so they were integrated in to a larger, more substantial diorama for a Christmas Party sequence:
Since December 2020 the box has been sitting in the storage shed, complete with Christmas tree, occasionally disappearing completely and at other times partially emerging from beneath the ebb and flow of clutter:
The 2020 version is rather odd shaped, narrower at the back than at the front. I do not recall now why I constructed it that way. I believe it had something to do with trying to create a sense of visual depth, and to allow for a variety of camera angles that would disguise how small the space actually is:
I recently decided to make another half-hearted attempt at salvaging this room box before deciding whether to discard it completely. This entailed reworking the walls (with scissors and hot melt glue) to create a rectangular space offering more usable floor area than did the previous tapering design:
It doesn't take much for the space to begin looking cluttered again. Doll and action figure room box spaces are usually much smaller than they should be to properly reflect true scale, but even a small 1:1 scale room takes up an enormous amount of table or shelf space in 1:6 scale, so for practical doll photography purposes, the scale spaces are usually condensed:
I have another section of wall somewhere, including a cut-out for a door, with which to fill in the missing left-side wall space. It's often helpful to either have a "short wall" on one side of a room box, or to have a section of wall that can be easily removed, to allow for easier camera and lighting access.
I hope I can find the missing wall section within the next few days. I'm already getting tired of working on this mess, and I'm thinking I should have just binned it before I started.
The original version had colored lights integrated in to the walls, I still need to replace the lights. As with so many other bits and pieces, I repurposed the lights for something else and now I'm not sure where I put them.
