Re: August: Piece of Cake!
I love the Great British Bake Off! Also, the Dals are adorable, but I love the Princess Bear and Elephant in these shots.
Also, I'm now in need of more cake! Had a family party; forgot to take photos. Brought home a slice of cake from a restaurant; forgot to get photos. My stomach is interrupting the signals from my brain or something. That or the cakes are just too good, and their nefarious charms are bewitching me.
This is also the time of year for the Moon Festival, so I may have to go pick up a Mooncake for the Dals to take a taste of.

Re: August: Piece of Cake!
I've heard of moon pies, but not moon cakes.
I burnt some mini brownies I made to use as cakes. I accidently turned on the broiler instead of setting the oven to bake. But I guess that's one way to keep the husband from eating them before I have a chance to take of photo with them.

Re: August: Piece of Cake!
Mooncakes are a Chinese pastry made for the Lunar Equinox. They are usually beautifully stamped, and filled with various types of filling, the most common of which is either a beanpaste (red, green, or mung are usual) or Lotus paste. Some of them will also include a salted eggyolk in the center to represent the moon, which contrasts in flavor with the sweet beanpaste. Some also have candied fruits and nuts. My favorite is filled with black sesame paste, and I just found a recipe for a steamed version with delicious custard filling. I think I might have to try making that sometime, but I don't have a stamp yet. As you can see, these cut very nicely, like a tiny cake, and are very good with a nice hot tea. I will have to pick one up (if I can find a flavor I prefer) and take some photos with the Dals. (The photo is found on Flicker, from CelestialDelish.

Here is the Snowskin (steamed rather than baked) Custard Mooncake recipe, for anyone who is interested. It's challenging, but it's both beautiful, and looks delicious. http://www.chinasichuanfood.com/snow-skin-mooncake-video-recipe-with-custard-filling/

Re: August: Piece of Cake!
Wow, that looks interesting! The pattern on the top is cool.
Offgenemi, what a cute little tea party
I can't eat a whole cake, so am not likely to have one soon... am a bit shy to take the dolls to the grocery store for a photo on the cake shelf!! I bought a package of squares last week but I think they'll all be eaten before I get round to taking a photo...

You could always draw a cake! And Alliecat, you are so good at "found" props - can you find something cake-like on the beach?
Re: August: Piece of Cake!
These are very old photos (2011). Wow, my photography skills have improved.

Those moon cakes look like little pieces of art!
I have a number of Re-ment cakes, I just have to find the time to get them out and set up a scene.

Hahaha! I'm pretty sure you would not want to use it if it was cake-like!TrueFan wrote:You could always draw a cake! And Alliecat, you are so good at "found" props - can you find something cake-like on the beach?
Unfortunately the cool useable found items are rare. The piece of plastic down there right now, unfortunately will have to stay there because I'm not touching it -- it looks exactly like it should have a body part in it!
You guys have reminded me, I actually think I do have a little cake-rement thing somewhere in the dolly box. Some stuff came with my Yummy Sweets mini. I don't really have anywhere to put it or use it, so I think it's just in the box somewhere. I'll have to look.
Cute photos, True! What's "Stuffle"?

Re: August: Piece of Cake!
Good eye, Alliecat! I guess the photos are actually from 2008. That's when the Dals attended STUFFLE - a stuffed animal convention. It must have predated this forum. I was inspired by planning the first PUDDLE to have the Dals throw a convention too.
I've reposted them here:

Man, that was so much work. And apparently I never did the final shoot - where Dot tells CC that she is giving her the stuffed elephant.

Cute! I would love a stuffed animal convention.
Cake...
...Found it! So I actually took a new picture for this month's challenge. Woo.

Re: August: Piece of Cake!
I don't think I try to sneak a piece of cake from them! Very cute! Are those chairs the kind that are made from a can?
I need to take a cake photo or two and a Wonderland photo for DM this weekend. And it's supposed to be rainy, so we'll see if I can squeak them in.

They are! And I had no idea they were sold as pincushions until I found some on eBay that look very much the same.CornflowerBlue wrote:I don't think I try to sneak a piece of cake from them! Very cute! Are those chairs the kind that are made from a can?

Re: August: Piece of Cake!
I've seen them in someone else's photos and I like them! May have to do some shopping...
In the meantime, I put some chocolate icing on one my burnt mini brownies, dug out some suitable Re-ment to accompany it and got a photo for this contest. At least I have one entry. I'd still like to do something with some of the other Re-ment cakes in my collection.

I believe that's a Puki in CornflowerBlue's photo, Alliecat.
I'm happy that there are more cake photos being posted! Just about a week left...

Last call for cake photos! Stamp and cake photos will be part of the next Dal of the Month banner contest.
Re: August: Piece of Cake!
Disclaimer: not a Dal or a cake.
Here is the Barbie tea party photo I mentioned when I posted the photo of Sunny in the cake at my doll club picnic.

Re: August: Piece of Cake!
I finally got to it! I got some mooncakes before they went away. This one is fig flavored, and really too sweet for me, but it tasted great in very small bites with a nice black tea. I didn't get a chance to do the set up I wanted (Moonviewing with Mooncakes) but L. Alice and L. White Rabbit wanted to do a spooktacular party in the graveyard. It's not a great photo, but I did what I could with random bits and bobs from The Haunted Mansion.

BTW LOVE the other photos. Also that is a serious knife for cake cutting.
