Re: February: Ode to Dal - write Dal a poem!
Perhaps I'm a little lacking in culture, because I wasn't sure just what a "visual poem" would be. That's really neat, Marsian! The haikus are great. Dargosmydaddy, I love that your first one could apply to anyone -- and the second made me laugh.
I always read Byul as "bye-ool" -- though for no good reason.
IF EVERY DOLL COULD BE A DAL
If every doll could be a Dal,
How lovely it would be;
For some the thought is simply grand,
Though Pullip won't agree.
If every doll could be a Dal,
Reborns would have to go,
And Barbie's head would have to change;
It's far too small, you know.
If every doll could be a Dal,
What would the others do?
Byul might cheer, but Pullip frowns,
"I don't want to look like you."
If every doll could be a Dal,
We'd think twice about what's pretty.
It would always be in style to pout,
Not just when life is ( ..... )!
What say you, collectors all --
Would we want a world of Dals?
Her fans say yes, while others think
We need some other gals.
So here's a toast to you, Miss Dal:
Although your style is quirky;
Your many fans who love you hope
You'll have a happy birthday!

Brava, Alliecat! My favorite stanza is this one, although I also liked the dig at Reborns and Barbie.

Wonderful! Maybe this should be a permanent sticky?

Marsian, you definitely need to post that photo on facebook etc. Not that it is better than the other poems, but because it is visual and a great representation of three dolls, not just Dal.
In other news, there WILL be a prize for this round! I ordered a wall calendar of my Dal photos and they accidentally sent me two. So, I will raffle the second off to one lucky winner. Two months will be gone, but oh well. You will receive one raffle entry for each poem you submit by the end of 2/29.

Oh, and you can also submit it to this year's PUDDLE contest, since the theme is Space!!

Re: February: Ode to Dal - write Dal a poem!
Thank you, it was fun to make!
Your comment actually got me thinking to do a representation of all dolls in a visual poem.
I will think about it! Also, based on your previous suggestion (sharing on social media) If you would like to use the artwork for giftbag bookmarks or anything, I would be happy to adjust the sizing and send you the artwork.
Thank you so much for the compliment! And i would love to share it on social media, in this case unfortunately i quit FB and Twitter about 2 years ago and right now i am only active on Flickr and Instagram, insta being more personal pictures than dollies. However if you would like to share it, feel free to do so!TrueFan wrote:Marsian, you definitely need to post that photo on facebook etc. Not that it is better than the other poems, but because it is visual and a great representation of three dolls, not just Dal.

I am so jealous of all the talented people here. i am not even a fan on poems in general but i enjoyed all of them here. also realized never saw a visual poem before it is beautifu, Marsianl!
the way you wrote Dal looks like "lal" in Turkish, which means ruby, garnet or rose.

Re: February: Ode to Dal - write Dal a poem!
Ummm...
Well, this started off as trying to find a really good punchline for the opening line. But I couldn't think of anything (feel free to come up with something). So it turned into this instead.
DOLLS' NIGHT OUT
A Pullip and Dal walked into a bar;
The bouncer called Dal underage.
"You're not allowed here, you're only 10."
And Dal flew into a rage.
"Who do you think you are," she cried,
"I know you're no older than me!
All you Taeyangs are still just 10 too,
So you can just MYOB!"
"I'm cuter than you and have better hair,
And who really cares, you can blink."
Then Pullip came back and broke up the fight
And said, "Now don't make a stink."
"You're cuter, he's taller, but I am the star;
There's nothing we all have to prove.
We're the same dolly family, so let's not forget
We all came from that place they call Groove."
They settled their differences, went off to dance,
Had some rement and interesting chats;
Dal minded her temper and made some new friends,
While Taeyang went home with a Bratz.

Ha, ha! I've always wanted to do a photo shoot with Captian Hook and the Bratz pirates as his minions.

Re: February: Ode to Dal - write Dal a poem!
This is my work.
I had the first lines in mind for a few days, but today I've tried to type them and I could complete it.
Do you know who I am, pal?
I'm the best around, I'm Dal!
I'm a princess in my world
I can even handle a sword
I'm a brave heroine
I'm a lady in crinoline
Don't you dare to tell I'm grumpy
'Cause I'm cute, sweet yet sulky
Did you read carefully it all?
You can get rid of any other doll!

Ha, I love it! Excellent job, especially since English is not your first language. This is my favorite line - so true, at least for me.

My favorite line, too! You did a great job! And I still got nothing. I have to spend some time in the car tomorrow, so I thought I'd try coming up with something while the hubby's driving. Maybe I'll see something inspiring on one of the billboards along the freeway.
