Are previous photos eligible or do they have to be taken this month?

Nice job on the drawing!
I'll try to take some new pictures.
In the meantime, for the sake of participation, here are Victoria & Samantha playing a "real" game that is not on a screen.

Ha two Nautical dolls playing battle ships, is that a tactical game or just for fun?

I can see from the pegs on the boards that Samantha is the least experienced user, and is losing decisively. Her approach is "scattershot," and she doesn't understand the idea behind looking at the patterns that reveal the locations of the ships. She has one hit here, one hit there, but she doesn't pursue the hit. This reminds me of when I played this game with young kids at the elementary school who had never played before. It takes practice, but perhaps she will get better over time, as her mind matures. Playing battleship with people of different ages is an interesting observational opportunity in developmental psychology.
Unfortunately, most kids cheat. Nobody wants to lose. They say it's a "miss" when it's not, they move their ships, and they place the ships so they overhang the board. One thing that's not as common anymore is "peeking," because the visual-spatial skills are so limited that most kids still don't know what to call even after sneaking a peek at the opponent's board.
There used to be an "online" version of Battleship that could be played between players from separate computers, and you just clicked on the grid rather than calling out letters and numbers coordinates. At least it was harder to cheat that way, with a computer as an intermediary. But that version was "technology dependent."

Keen observations David! I loved battle ships as a kid and working out the patterns to games. You can do a similar thing with Cluedo once you work out the patterns of your own cards and determine how many suspects rooms, weapons must still be in play you can determine which you are trying to weedle out of your opponents. I think its why I'm not much of a monopoly fan. Its more luck than patterns.

Good for Henri!
I love that battleship photo, especially the way Satti is posed. Wow, davidd really analyzed the game.
I like luck games over skill. I had an older sister who would cheat to win when we were kids, and it drove all competitiveness out of me.

I feel you, Nocchi. I'm not enthused about pictures in the snow either.
More oldies, sorry... life is just not conducive to much photo fun at the moment. I'm doing well to manage my pic-a-week and it's only January.

Might also be that the photoshoot director set the boards up in a hurry...davidd wrote:.... Samantha is the least experienced user, and is losing decisively. Her approach is "scattershot," and she doesn't understand the idea behind looking at the patterns that reveal the locations of the ships....

Re: January 2023 - Fun Without Technology
Before taking part to the challenge, I started to think, what even count as technology? Like, is book printing technology? Or a wheel? Then I decided I would think technology as things like video games and other electric things like computers, phones eg.
So, here are my entries, taken earlier today.
Rikako and Ai are sledding.
Malice is reading.

I like the downhill sledding "action" pic! It looks appropriately cold and damp and slightly dangerous, just like real sledding!

Re: January 2023 - Fun Without Technology
I feel with the challenges that anything that triggers someone's imagination or triggers a play session counts! I was mainly thinking of phones but you are right that the word technology covers a lot.
Risa does not look happy to be out in the snow but I also love the action photo. There are so many cute little doll sized books available, which helps with doll photography. Malice is thinking hard about whatever she is reading!

davidd, the weather actually was all that when taking this photo! Our yard was somewhat dangerous with wet ice everywhere, I almost fell once when taking girls outside.
TrueFan, you got it right, Rikako doens't even like sledding and was probably somehow coerced to come along with Ai who definitely loves the action

Re: January 2023 - Fun Without Technology
Good point about what counts as technology. Printing presses and wheels were technology at some point, when they were invented. Red’s skateboard could be technology of sorts as well. (I do“get“ the intent of the challenge though.)
Heck, even clothes and the manufacturing of them could count as technology! Hmmmm….!!

January is almost over and I still haven't got on board with this like I wanted too :'( I love Malice she is beautiful! I can't read these posts with out saying "sledging" and not "sledding" curious how differently our cultures use words!
