Dee's Smart Dolls
I tried for so long to resist the siren song of the Smart Dolls... but I was unsuccessful.
After the world's fastest shipping, Courage has arrived! Meet Ren.
Choosing the right doll to start was such a struggle. I love Legion in every skin tone, I love the yet-to-be-released Looking for Trouble, I love Live and Let Live, I love Resilient... and many more. But I kept coming back to Courage! A lot of the dolls I liked had some features in common (like fierce girls with strong eyebrows or friendly girls with freckles) but Courage was the only one that was truly different from all the others on my list. I'm so glad I chose her, because she is absolutely perfect.
Also very relieved that the dolls come with a set of undies, because she arrived faster than the clothes I ordered for her!
It's hard to see in pictures, but in person her wig has little peachy-pink streaks! I'm just so thrilled with her. It's only a matter of time before she gets a friend, I'm sure.

Haha, so they will multiply just like all other dolls
Congratulations!
Yes, I can kinda see the peachy streaks. It's a cute wig and suits her.

Dolls just have a habit of multiplying, don't they?! Thank you!
Re: Dee's Smart Dolls
Ren finally got some clothes!
First, a cute hoodie made by Maysnook on Mercari:
Then some jeggings, a tube top, and a cardigan from DazzlingDollzDesigns on Etsy! The seller is super nice and even threw in the little rainbow necklace as a freebie. I'll definitely be ordering from her again:
The weather finally cooperated, so we were able to get outside for a very mini photoshoot. I'll have to make more use of this brick backdrop before we move!
Currently working on a 1/3-scale foldable doll diorama for her inspired by MyFroggyStuff's Smart Doll room, because I figured 1/3 would be a little bigger and less fiddly to work with than jumping right into 1/6. Man, I underestimated how hard it would be to cut through foam board! I'll have to glue on some paper to cover the places where I hacked it to bits. I'll hopefully post some progress pictures soon - we're traveling to the exotic land of Galena, IL next week so I won't be able to work on it much for now!

Cute outfit. She looks really comfortable.
Wow, a 1/3 scale diorama sounds like a big project!

Re: Dee's Smart Dolls
Congrats! Mine have certainly multiplied way beyond what I expected to own. Be on your guard!
Re: Dee's Smart Dolls
Congrats on Courage and welcome to the wonderful world of Smart Dolls! I was only going to get one in each skin color, but, well, that went out the window.
I like the comfy, casual style she has.

That was my thought at first too, but I just can't narrow down all the ones I like!! Legion Cocoa is another favorite and I'll probably order her very soon, but I also love Fortitude, and Resilient, and and Not Everything To Everyone, and Imagine, and the yet-unreleased Looking for Trouble, and Live and Let Live, and Pear Future...!
And thank you! I'm thinking she's sort of an athleisure type of girl.

Smartie #2 has arrived! Meet Vesper!
Vesper is a kelpie who decided to stay in human form because humans have things like "pizza" and "anime" that kelpies do not have. She loves video games and doesn't like people, but can be bribed with snacks.
Ren found her on her travels and after some initial awkwardness, they're now best friends. Ren is the only person that Vesper genuinely loves and doesn't just tolerate. Together they attend St. Alma's Academy for Adventurers, a modern-day fantasy college where adults can study monster slaying, dungeoneering, wizardry, and more.
I keep telling myself I need to stop buying dolls, but I think they need one more friend to round out the group, so I'll be hoping Fortitude Cinnamon awakens again soon. In the meantime, these two are up to enough trouble all on their own!

Thank you! I love Courage's placid expression with how fierce Legion looks, haha.
Re: Dee's Smart Dolls
Well that sure didn’t take long!
Love the blue and mocha combination – wow!
Sounds like they could have some fun adventures together. Congrats on the new arrival.

It definitely didn't. I'm totally hooked! As much as I love looking at collections of every type of doll, I'm sort of picky about the ones I collect myself, and well... I guess Smart Dolls fit the bill. They're just so nice!
Re: Dee's Smart Dolls
Your smart girls are beautiful you've picked some really nice clothes and wigs for them too. I'm still not tempted though, too expensive. I'm saving pennies for a birthday Dal.

Totally fair. It was really hard to justify the price at first, but when I took a look at my Pullip buying habits, I was already paying $100-150 for a doll, plus $30 for a new wig, plus $40-50 for a new body after shipping... and at that point I was halfway to Smart Doll price already, haha. So from there it was easier to make the jump!

"A troubling amount of procrastination" that could be my catchphrase. I love her greeny blue wig!

Right?! The work got done eventually, but it was rough!!
I love her wig too. It totally pops against her skin tone!

Same, on the procrastination. Who wants to adult when you can play with dolls??

Re: Dee's Smart Dolls
Recently I watched a program about the last doll hospital in the uk and the man said "I guess no one wakes up and says I want to repair dolls for a living" and I thought "me me me I do" then they said it would be a lost art soon and I thought "take me as an apprentice!" But it's too far away to relocate so I will just have to dream.

Honestly, I think there is totally a market for doll hospitals! There are so many times I've seen a doll for sale online with some little flaws, like marks on her face or a dent or something, and thought I would totally buy her if I could send her somewhere to be repaired. I just don't have the skill to do it myself!
Re: Dee's Smart Dolls
I think it’s a nice idea too. Every once in a while you hear about some organization doing a “teddy bear clinic”, but I’m not sure whether it’s actual repairs or just a thing where they pretend to do a medical checkup and stick a Band-Aid on them, to get kids comfortable with doctor visits. Our throwaway society is too inclined to just chuck stuff that needs a little repair, and that probably includes dolls and other toys.
The white sweater really sets off that fabulous blue/mocha combination. She is really cool.

Re: Dee's Smart Dolls
I used to care for a Lady who ran a doll hospital and I thought it sounded like the most fascinating job in the world. She would repair them and sew hospital gowns to send them home in. The one in the documentary was fascinating it was repairs on antique dolls and bears and talked about how they colour matched the bears fur etc. If I can remember the name of it I'll let you know but I think it's quite hard to find pirated versions of British documentaries. I don't think there's much demand in Britain anymore because of ridiculous shipping prices.
I really do like the contrast of the peachy wig and the greeny blue wig next to each other. It feels like a very tropical pallet.

Re: Dee's Smart Dolls
Well... I did it again.
Meet Freddie! I actually have a new wig coming for her tomorrow, but I couldn't wait that long to take some photos of her. I have a vision of her as a flower fairy, maybe an autumn fairy? We shall see what the right outfit can do for her.
My doll budget can make room for ONE more Smart Doll until the end of summer (I think I said that last time and found more room, though...) so I need to choose carefully, but there are three I'm super torn between. I think if the Ellie doll drops soon, she will probably be my choice.
Also, Vesper got a new outfit that she's very excited about. She's a real anime nerd so we HAD to have the Pocky dress.
(She might not LOOK excited, but that's just her face.)

LOL, someone is hooked
She's pretty! She has very striking eyes. I like that wig, but it will be interesting to see what else you try on her. Congrats!
That blue hair with the blue eyes.... wow!
