1 January - A Doll A Day 2023:


There are a couple of puns there, just not very good ones.

Janie (Smart Doll Harmony) kicks off A Doll A Day 2023 by showing us a nicely detailed miniature model (actually a Hallmark holiday ornament) of Disney's 'Nautilus' submarine from the 1954 motion picture 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

Yay! Another year of ADAD adventures!

I'm glad to see Janie gets some downtime to enjoy her hobbies.

Janie really has a beautiful face and her submarine is really cool. All these beach pictures feel like a stark contrast to the freezing here!

4 January - A Doll A Day 2022:


Brought, bought, and borrowed: too many books, not enough time.

I have lost track of how long it has been since I read a book, an actual book, from cover to cover, yet somehow the books keep accumulating. Some of these I brought with me on my winter getaway, some I have purchased since arriving, and some I have borrowed from the local library, yet here they sit, in a precarious pile, while I spend my "reading time" online.

I still read, quite a lot actually, but I read piecemeal, here and there, bits of that and fragments of this, on a screen rather than as a cohesive whole between hardboard covers on printed pages.

I often allow myself to become distracted before beginning a book by looking up information about the book. I can tell you quite a lot about writer E.B. White, for example, even though I have yet to read the E.B. White book of essays that has been wedged in this pile for over two years.

Is reading books inherently better than reading online? I don't know.

Should I make a conscientious effort to spend less time online and instead read a book? Again, I don't know.

But here's a picture of a doll with a pile of books, which makes a more interesting picture than would a doll with a computer screen.

Maybe if Triv would pull her eyeglasses down over her eyes rather than wearing them on her forehead as a fashion statement, she could see well enough to read a book.

You are not alone. Many people have stopped reading books to doomscroll instead. Me, I like to put down the technology and lose myself in a book (although that book is often on my ereader).

How teeny-tiny is the teeny tiny Queen?

Now I'm suddenly getting all metaphorical, about how fixing something that is broken requires dismantling what remains... I think I needed to hear that.... ...

I suppose there is something metaphorical, or metaphysical, or just common sensical, about tearing down the old to rebuild better and stronger.

Teeny Tiny Queen is about... no, wait, I'll measure to be sure... is exactly 3cm tall.

I think the Queen came from Wonderland, where she must have sipped from the bottle labeled "Drink Me."

I wish I were doing something fun with the planks. I'm re-using most of them to rebuild the fence. After all, "re-use is the purest form of recycling."

I think I've mentioned before that I have and love that Barbie Halloween set. I've sold a lot of my Barbies, but I've kept most of the Halloween ones.

So, is Janie your favorite or your least favorite? She gets to do all the "fun" jobs.
