I spend too much time rampaging through the house looking for Things Hidden Under Things and swearing about the clutter. "Give it away," someone said to me just today. Dude, you gotta find people that WANT it first...

I've been tempted many a time to invest in a Tilley... or a Tilley-esque... hat. Among your caps, do you have any "long bill" fishing caps, like the Quaker Marine Oysterman, the J. Peterman Hemingway, or the Papa Nui Pilar?
Yeah, "giving stuff away" is surprisingly challenging. When giving stuff away is no longer an option, we must steel ourselves to either donating our family's cherished possessions (and junk) to charity shops or relegating it to a landfill. Neither proposition is easy to reconcile, hence my own heaps and stacks and piles of stuff.

Second World War Action Figure
.
Dragon Models
No. 70030
World War II Moscow Campaign
Wehrmacht Infantry (Feldwebel) NCO (Non-Commissioned Officer)
Circa 2000 release
Not every toy, doll, or action figure that is kept "mint in box" appreciates in value. This military figure, released by Dragon Models over twenty years, ago is an example. I purchased this figure via eBay last year... or it mighta been two years ago... when I was looking for a few bits and pieces to complete a quasi-military action figure project on which I was working. It was less expensive (at the time - postage prices have since increased – yet again) to purchase a complete figure than to individually purchase some of the equipment and accessories loose.
The figure has been sitting around in my storage shed for over a year, or maybe two, with the box taking up a lot of space. Today I finally opened the package. The transparent plastic portions of the packaging have turned a deep amber color from age, and have become brittle. Some of the plastic elements of the figure have become brittle as well. One of the wrist joints broke while I was removing the figure from the packaging. I was able to find parts scattered among my piles of clutter to repair the wrist joint, so after nearly a quarter century, this little plastic soldier has been released from solitary confinement and declared fit and ready for duty.
Oh... the figure includes a very nicely made long trench coat, or greatcoat, which is one of the parts I was looking for when I purchased it.

Nope, just regular hats.
Do ANY action figures really appreciate if kept in the box? Sometimes I have the impression that that whole concept is just an urban legend.

Yes. Pretty much every one that I have never purchased. Or the ones that I opened.
14 June - A Doll A Day 2023:
Team Diablos
The figure I opened yesterday joined this creepy crew.
My desktop computer, that I use for pretty much everything, stopped working today. I ran every diagnostic and repair and restart protocol I could find online to no avail. It looks like a hard drive issue.
I may be in absentia for a while as a result. I'm using an older laptop computer to post here, which I am able to do because I had already uploaded a photo for today. But I do not know how to import, edit, resize, and upload photos using this hideously cumbersome NON-MAC interface. How people function using Microsoft-based machines I do not know.
So anyway, yeah... I'll see ya around... if I can figure out a way to raise some soul-crushing sum of money to get my computer fixed... assuming it can be fixed... and assuming the backups I have on my also-dodgy external drive will work once I get the computer fixed.

Actually... it turns out that the Smart Doll crew can repair almost anything!
Following an entire day of failed attempts that resulted in nothing but error screens, I ultimately had to call in Nelly the Rocket Scientist to complete the installation from the backup disc.
After nearly eleven hours of additional fussing around, Nellz says she'll stick to rockets after this.
But... it works again! YAY!

Oh, it's very nice to see some owner pictures of Zappa! I'm really surprised the outfit works so well on completely different doll. Which type of doll that is anyway (the one wearing Zappa's outfit)?
It's fun to see pictures of many different types of dolls in a same post, too! I always love the work you put on your dioramas and stuff. I'm always too lazy to stage anything!

I tried the Zappa costume on an action figure body. It is a "seamless" body from a company called TBLeague. I believe I used a TBLeague S36 body, which is more petite than many of the TBLeague body types, similar to Pullip in proportions.
The head is a separate item: 1/6 LUCIFER LXF1904 Elven Queen Emma, according to eBay, although it is also sold under other names.
The Pullip Zappa costume fit without modifications, seam gaps, or... the use of safety pins!

A Doll A Day 2023 - Playing Catch-Up Again
Meh... sorry! I've been too busy and too tired to bother with posting.
26 June – Action Figure Action Stance
'Kay, this is an intentionally bad photo illustrating some things that I dislike intensely about female action figure photography; or, more precisely, about photographers who pose and photograph female action figures. I had a tough time getting myself to pose the figure like this because it's just so cringe, y'know?
First: seriously, does anyone, whether real-life super-models or anyone else, actually twist their heads, owl-like, to look backwards over their shoulders in order to appear "sexy?" Maybe while backing up your car -- well, in the days before every car had a back-up camera -- but in everyday life, or even in once in a while life, who cranks their head around sideways to look over their shoulder?
So while swiveling your head, now arch your back so your butt sticks out; but throw those shoulders back so they're even with, or even out behind, your protruding butt. Keep that head turned. There, that'll look sexy as heck. Emphasize those frontal assets along with the ass-ets, dig?
And then, icing on the cake, ya gotta have a gun.
I dunno if it's sexy if a guy does this. Maybe I should try this pose with a male action figure.
But go look through almost any dude's photos of female action figures and you're gonna see this pose -- usually even more extreme. What is the deal with cranking the heads around sideways? Even yoga practitioners can't do that!
So there ya go: the iconic chick action figure stance: head twist, boobs out, back arched, butt and shoulders back -- do dudes really think this is what girls look like? I don't think the girls in girly magazines even twist themselves in to positions like this.
I don't want to ever pose my action figures like this, other than in jest; so if you catch me doing it, call me out, m'kay?
Fun fact: the fig actually balanced in this position!
27 June – Action Figure Action Stance, Revisited
I hadda go back and stand her up straight. I actually kinda like this fig (a TBLeague S32A body with a SuperDuck SDH018B head), and the character has a name, Nora LeValle, so I felt kinda bad "objectifying" her (objectifying an inanimate object - can ya do that?) for that example of cringe-inducing action figure photography yesterday. But she's a trooper, and willing to go along with the gag for educational purposes, so here she is looking... at least I hope... somewhat less implausibly contorted.
Bear in mind, this is a stylized action figure and a fictional character, so kids: do NOT walk around with a loaded automatic pistol stuffed down your trousers!
28 June – The Diabolical Doctor X
Doctor X is a character and figure from the Action Man line of action figures. Action Man was originally the Palitoy version of Hasbro's GI Joe released in Europe. Later, Hasbro marketed Action Man (and his enemies) in the US market.

30 June – The Pestiferous Professor Gangrene
Professor Gangrene is a character and figure from the Action Man line of action figures. Action Man was originally the Palitoy version of Hasbro's GI Joe released in Europe. Later, in the 1990s, Hasbro marketed Action Man (and some of his enemies) in the US market.
