One forgets how small the Pinkys are in some of your photos.

I was hoping for that, too. I mean, the reviews said the book was funny.
My brain felt different afterward: my outlook and attitude became even more bleak.

Hey sexy ladies whoop whoop whoop whoop. Whoopa military style!
The two blondes look like the same person but in very different moods.

Re: davidd's A DOLL A DAY 2024
I'm so concerned for these ladies now that I know about how figures can degrade over time! I suppose you have to adapt a sort of Buddhist focus on the present moment to enjoy collecting them. Pullips and Dals are sort of like the ship of Theseus, in that no matter what happens to them you can pretty much always swap out parts or re-paint their face until they're basically not even the same doll anymore, haha.
Re: davidd's A DOLL A DAY 2024
Hmm... they look like Marwen South!
Unless they are the wrong colour, like a couple of mine! Wouldn't it be great if we could do that with our own parts!adreamingdollie wrote:... no matter what happens to them you can pretty much always swap out parts or re-paint their face until they're basically not even the same doll anymore, haha.

I guess it's true that all blondes look alike!
Actually, the heads on the figures on either end are exactly the same model but with different colored hair, on exactly the same style body. The "blonde" in the middle is a different head on a different body type.
But yeah... most people seem to think all these "seamless female action figure" type dolls look pretty much alike... and I agree with that assessment. All of 'em, not just the blondes.

Welll.... ya kinda could, except, my understanding is that the popular styles of Obitsu bodies are becoming somewhat difficult to find, and loose Pullip bodies are becoming pricier than they once were. Plus, there's the challenge of color matching between heads and bodies.
The same challenges affect seamless action figure collectors. The heads are pretty durable, so the bodies can be replaced. Color matching between bodies and heads can be challenging, and recently the body manufacturers have begun making changes to some of the body designs and to the colors.
Have you seen pics where Pullip customizers use seamless bodies? There used to be a few on Instagram.

I wonder if the Marwen guy is still taking photos? His work became very popular for a while, and then there was the fictionalized movie version of his experience, so despite the difficulties he faced in his life, he managed to make something out of his toy photography hobby, which is pretty cool.
Yes, doll parts have a tendency to discolor, fade, or color-shift over time, which can make replacing parts more challenging. And yeah, I could benefit from an overhaul and upgrade, myself.

There's a Pullip Amelia listed for sale on eBay right now, but the seller is asking $700 USD plus $25 shipping (and then sales tax would add another fifty or sixty on to that), so that one will definitely not be joining the ærodrome. I'll keep an eye on the listing, and if that doll sells for seven-hundred bucks, the ærodrome will find itself disbanded and the assets liquidated!
It's a really nice example, though, all minty-complete with box.

Re: davidd's A DOLL A DAY 2024
Oooh, no, I think that price might be too steep! On Mercari there was an Amelia just this month that sold for $110 plus shipping - out of box but with all her props, it looks like. I'll keep an eye out for you!

$110 was a bargain!
Thanx! Yeah... despite what I sometimes (often) say about "disbanding the ærodrome," I'm still actively recruiting members... if their salary requests are reasonable.

That price is ridiculous. I thought it might be one of those Japanese resellers until I looked at the listing. She does have a few rare dolls but good luck with selling at those prices!

Re: davidd's A DOLL A DAY 2024
I honestly can't believe the prices some people will sell pullips for! Sometimes they have the same pullips for a really reasonable price on grooves website but the same doll will be $200-300 more I don't get it at all! I had a look on Mercari but I'm not used to navigating it yet.

Re: davidd's A DOLL A DAY 2024
This is really cute and it’s always fun when you are right down at the Pinkys' level on the beach.
People may be asking those prices for Pullips, but I don’t know if they’re selling! I think I’ve seen $400 ones on eBay for as long as I’ve been interested. When you think about what you get – a plastic doll with not the best articulation – it’s pretty crazy.
I see people recommend Mercari a lot, but it doesn’t work in Canada.
… wait, you can use it from Scotland??

Re: davidd's A DOLL A DAY 2024
I can access it. I haven't tried making an account or ordering anything yet.
The answer is No. I can browse on it but if I try to make an account or download the app it tells me it's not available in my area.
Ah well you and I Alliecat can sail away in the same boat together.

She looks like she's having so much fun! It's not quite beach weather up here in Illinois, but maybe soon...!
Re: davidd's A DOLL A DAY 2024
Yeah, it looks really nice.
Today’s beach weather here: -3C with windchill that probably took it down to -10. It was -10 last night without factoring in wind.
Anyone got a tiny violin?… wahh

Yeah, but them's centigrade minuses, so they hardly count!

Exactly!
Yes, the beach sand colors are interesting here. I've read that the reddish tint is from fragments of seashells called coquina shells.

Re: davidd's A DOLL A DAY 2024
You could do one of those page-a-day calendars of Pinkys on the beach!
Is it mostly sand, or mostly shell? I bet, unlike ours, it's skritchy -- like, crunchier.
