Re: Cat's Dolls
Alice is so cute, in her pretty pink dress!
Did she drop a penny in the well and make a wish?

Her expression and the angle in the last pic are really cute, like she's waiting for you to go do something fun. I like her dress too.

No sadly its all filled in with dirt, as if someone was going to plant something but never got around to it.
It was nice to get the chance to pose her outside and take my time about it. Still never as much time as i would like though.

Sounds like some kind of metaphor for life there… “I took my wish to the wishing well but someone had filled it in.”CatDragonStorm wrote:

I have only ever met other Doll people once in real life and my take away advice from the experience was "always take a chopstick for outside shoots"
So armed with a chopstick and a well packed back it was Lily's turn for an outside shoot today. It was very warm here despite being overcast and I found a lovely statue of a fairy that someone else had made a lovely daisy crown for.
She picked some lovely forget-me-nots but I didn't get a good picture of the posy until we got home again.

Re: Cat's Dolls
Uhm... Lily? Your chopstick is showing!
That is actually sage travel-doll advice... that I often find myself wishing I had followed.
I'm glad the statue is a garden fairy. I was afraid you were following up the somewhat morose filled-in wishing well with a trip to a graveyard.
I missed the poetry challenge last month, so how 'bout this:
I took my wish to the wishing well
But someone had filled it in
With dirt and rocks that left no room
For wishes to fit in.
I took some seeds to the wishing well
And planted dandelions.
I watered them and watched them grow
Sun yellow, bright, they shined.
I took a flow'r from the wishing well
Bright yellow turned to white.
Puff! On a thousand fairy seeds
My wishes all took flight!

Re: Cat's Dolls
Oh what a perfectly lovely poem. Don't let the AI's take over, you have a flair for poetry.
There are lots of lovely little community gardens all over the little village we have moved to. I am especially looking forward to an opportunity to take pictures in the nautical themed one. My partner and step daughter found a fairy themed one but since I am encumbered with little people and a buggy that prefers not to off road I haven't been that way yet as apparently its quite a long walk. It's also hard to continuously pose dolls and keep part of my attention on said little people but I am certainly enjoying the opportunity to get outside more and am learning how to pack my bag efficiently for quick photo taking.

Re: Cat's Dolls
Sounds like you have many fun new photo sites to explore. Cute photos, and I love Lily's wig!
And YES, always a chopstick or a knitting needle! You can't always find appropriate sticks on location.
If you angle it behind a leg you don't have to worry about it showing. (In Lily's case you could also hide it behind a few locks of her hair!)
davidd I LOVE THE POEM!!

I'm actually usually a bit better at hiding chopsticks in shoots but I guess I've gotten rusty at it, as I didn't even notice until I uploaded the pictures.

It only shows in one. I was just messin' wit' 'cha!
Actually, I thought you intentionally included a photo in which the stick was visible because you were showing us how you do it.

Re: Cat's Dolls
It can be really easy to forget you had it showing. Or not notice it on the tiny camera screen. I like to do as little as possible in Photoshop so I always try to remember to check. But, every once in a while....
Which Pullip is Lily again...? She's so cute.

She's my Red bean custom doll. She used to be xiao fan. It is hard to notice on a tiny camera screen. I never know which will be the best shot until they go on the computer.

And you were SURE they were all in focus and the lighting was great... until you see them on the computer! Tell me about it!!CatDragonStorm wrote:It is hard to notice on a tiny camera screen. I never know which will be the best shot until they go on the computer.

Re: Cat's Dolls
He looks a little cheerful in the closeup, and not particularly bothered by the rainy day. Perhaps he's a gardener enjoying the April showers?
When I do my low-light stuff, I always do a focus check with flash. (If you haven't got flash, just do it with the lights on or a desk lamp for a spotlight.) Then you can zoom in and make sure you've hit the focus points. Then if I used autofocus I will switch it back to manual before shooting, to make sure it doesn't readjust.

Re: Cat's Dolls
Sid looks cool. Is that custom hair?
Sid, huh? Hmmm... I wonder what the inspiration for his name could have been? Hmmm...???
For the low-light focus, sometimes I will use a small flashlight and shine it on the spot I want to focus on until I get the focus to lock in.

Re: Cat's Dolls
It's not as obvious as you think, in the early days when I was writing stories I only had one Pullip(Lily) and my goths, so the role of Sid was taken by a punk shaped scrubbing brush called Sid dishes (so maybe it is that obvious). His hair is pink faux fur I coloured in with washable marker pen. Here is a picture of scrubbing brush Sid and Hypnotica pre-obitsu and still with her perfect buns.davidd wrote:Sid looks cool. Re: Cat's Dolls
Something is up with Violet. She has stopped talking again, except to George the turtle. She keeps staring forlornly out the window as if she is waiting for something and she is all dressed up to go out. I wish I knew what was bothering her but she won't tell me.
P.s. Alliecat that's good advice for focusing the camera. I will give it a go.

Re: Cat's Dolls
All ready and waiting for somewhere to go. I feel you, Violet....
I assume you named Sid Dishes... because I found a "punk scrubbing brush" online with no mention of a name. They really missed an opportunity and should have hired you for marketing!

Re: Cat's Dolls
I would be lying If I said who came up with the name because it was such a long time a go I can't remember. I lived in a communal student flat and it became a sort of game for my flat mates to leave Sid Dishes in different adventures for each other to find.
Here is with his friend 'Sam the yam'
Here he is at Halloween.
And this is after Sam sadly went mouldy.
.
His blue space boots are actually just a foil paper from some soft mints, they seem to have lasted a very long time (11+ years).

That sounds like tons of fun! It must have been great to have roommates who joined in something like that.
